Stapleford Abbotts
Romford, UK
The scheme proposed the redevelopment of a 2.2-hectare site at Oak Hill Road in Stapleford Abbotts.
The masterplan proposal provides 40+ new homes in a range of sizes, types, forms and tenures to meet local housing needs. The landscape is framed by the woodland and hedgerow trees which rise above the tops of the buildings. From there, various scales of landscape systems and components between and amongst the buildings weave through the site, providing access to amenities and existing landscape features. The creation of a new village green, public footpaths and generous private amenity spaces provide a setting in sympathy with the local landscape character whilst promoting healthy lifestyles for a vibrant new community.
Working closely with MKA Ecology and Peter Brett Associates, we have created a landscape design to increase biodiversity across the site by broadening range of habitats, microclimates and conditions and managing flood risk and drainage sustainably. Whilst the aim is not to re-create previous agricultural land uses, we have interpreted an agricultural landscape language into the built landscape environment.
