Canada Water Plot K1

London, UK

MRG Studio provided landscape support to Morris + Company’s scheme for plot K1 – streetscape and a courtyard garden looking out on to the Russia Dock Woodland for 79 affordable new homes. Plot K1 is part of a larger British Land’s Canada Water scheme masterplanned by Allies and Morrison, which will deliver around 3000 new homes for London, of which 35% will be affordable.

Plot K1’s unique setting adjacent to Russia Dock Woodland and Stave Hill Ecological Park required a sensitive landscape design response to the woodland edge. The site is a threshold between urban inhabitation and the woodland. Drawing from the natural and cultural heritage of the site, the new courtyard landscape draws the sense of the woodland right into the heart of where people will live. The landscape will create ecological value by strengthening ecological connectivity and improve biodiversity.

Having entered into a conditional Master Development Agreement with British Land last year, Southwark Council approved the overall masterplan and three plots within it in October 2019. MRG will now develop the approved landscape proposals to RIBA Stages 3 & 4
