Bernard Works

MRG Studio worked with Duggan Morris Architects on Bernard Works, which has won this year's NLA award for mixed-use development in the unbuilt category.  It will create approximately 25,000 sq ft of affordable workspace and 110 new homes on a site currently occupied by light industrial warehouses.

The public realm and landscape design includes a public park for the local community, a working courtyard, streetscape and private residential rear gardens.

Although the immediate surroundings present largely hard urban conditions, the proposed landscape scheme will create environmental value by strengthening the ecological connectivity of the local area. The scheme combines innovative technologies with tried-and-true horticultural and engineering techniques to deliver a landscape that improves local biodiversity, manages water usage and drainage sustainably, and helps London to breathe.
