Tide Mills Footbridge

East Sussex, UK

MRG Studio have been working with Knight Architects and Arup on the creation of a new bridge at Tide Mills, in the South Downs National Park.  The new bridge will replace a level crossing on an archaeologically and ecologically rich site on the coast of East Sussex.

The introduction of Tide Mills Bridge will create a new mark on the landscape. Like the old flint walls of the former village, the new structure and embankments will indelibly change the micro-climate and habitats of the surrounding area.

Understanding the dynamics of the local climate and the growth of native plants over time, we have designed a landscape to feel as though it has always been there, a subtle adjustment to the existing vegetation to take advantage of the new daily and seasonally shifting conditions of light and shade, exposure and shelter, for the benefit of visitors and local wildlife alike.

Tide Mills Bridge recently received planning approval from the South Downs National Park Authority.
